MAKE Magazine has the skinny on former Atari dev Scott Williamson's port of the Cinematronics shooter Star Castle. Though Atari execs decided the title was too complicated to bring over in the '80s, Williamson took it upon himself to make that transition possible. The result of some serious coding is 8K of ROM and 128 bytes of RAM's worth of good ol' space war. Sony ST21i 'Tapioca' spotted, Xperia Sola gets a little brother
We've seen references to a budget-oriented Sony phone codenamed "Tapioca" before, but until now the device itself has remained a mystery. Things are becoming a little clearer today, however, with the first leaked images of the phone showing up on Greek site ?Techblog?. Rumored specs, included along with the photos, include a 3.2-inch HVGA screen, an 800MHz CPU, 512MB of RAM and a 3MP camera. Interestingly for a budget device, the Tapioca is said to run Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, so it looks like Sony's had no trouble packing ICS onto lower-end hardware.
The front of the device is the spitting image of the Xperia Sola, a mid-range Sony handset that made waves shortly after MWC due to its "floating touch" tech. Given the Tapioca's budget leanings, though, we'd be surprised to see floating touch lurking inside this device. No pricing or availability details are provided along with today's leak, but an earlier roadmap suggests it'll hit in July around the €150 mark.

Thomas Frieden, who runs the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, discussed the importance of failure in his talk at TEDMED on Wednesday as a way to keep researchers, doctors and public health officials accountable. In the private sector, he said, if a product doesn?t work, it fails. For the government or similar entities, however, if a program doesn?t work, money often keeps flowing in through grants or other funding mechanisms to sustain it. Without a feedback loop, says Frieden, you won?t know if you?re making a difference and you won?t succeed. Frieden gave an example from his experience as health commissioner of New York City. When he arrived, the city didn?t have good ways to track the health of its residents. Once it established a system, the numbers showed that smoking rates in NYC had been largely static for a decade. So the city set out to curb smoking. The first year the city raised the tax on cigarettes ? the No. 1 way to reduce smoking rates, says Frieden ? by $1.42 per pack. Indeed, there was a big decline in smoking that year. The second year, the city banned smoking from office and indoor venues. But when they saw the tracking data that May, they found that the rate didn?t decrease, and in fact rose slightly. ?We had stalled; we were failing,? said Frieden. After seeing the numbers, he reached out to the CDC for advice and started a series of antismoking ads, as they suggested. ?I was skeptical,? says Frieden. But, the smoking rate declined that year.

If you have never looked into online classified advertising it is time you did so. This is a cost free method of advertisement that many people overlook but I encourage you not to make that mistake.
Every business owner is well aware of how advertising costs can escalate in a hurry. What is especially frustrating is that we cannot know in advance if our advertising dollar is going to pay off. It may be money down the drain. No one ever wants to waste their money, and these days especially, no one can afford to. Online classified ad sites are an answer to tight budgets and the never ending need to advertise ones business. All it will cost you is a little time to set up your ad campaign. Just follow the simple formula below.
Do a Google search of free online classified ads. Assemble a list of twenty five of the sites that come up. Create five folders in your computer and place five of the different classified ad site URLs in each folder. Label the folders Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Go to each of the twenty five sites and register to open an account with them. If you are ambitious you can get registered at all of them in one sitting. Then go back to the first site in your Monday folder and compose an ad. Once it is written, open a notepad window and copy and paste your ad copy into it and save it. Then finish placing your ad as per instructions at that classified ad site. Go to the second, third, fourth and fifth sites in your Monday folder and copy and paste the text that you saved in notepad into the composition boxes at each site. It will go quickly. Repeat this process at all twenty five sites.
Now that you have your ad campaign in place all you will need to do is renew your ads on a consistent basis. You can renew them several times a day, once a day or once a week. If you renew ads at least once a week they will not expire and you won?t have to continually write and place new ads. Just zip through each site and click renew buttons. As you become familiar with the procedure it will go very quickly.
And that is how to launch an advertising strategy that will cover your city, your country, or the entire globe for not so much as one red cent. Happy advertising!
